5. Press Freedom Week Celebration Together with other Cebu Media and newspaper organizations, CENEWOF, co-sponsors the annual celebration of Press Freedom Week held every September. During this annual event, CENEWOF, links up with benefactors in the Cebu community to support the Press Freedom Week activities.

 

 

6. Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center In consonance with its continuing mission to serve the needs of the print media industry in particular and the Cebu community in general, CENEWOF, has established the Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center. The Press Center aptly named after the advocate of truth and a democratic press, houses a 242-seat CENEWOF Theater, Theater Reception Hall, Conference, Seminar and Board Rooms, Computer Room with Internet Research Facilities. While the facility serves as a venue for use by Cebu’s print media workers and future members of the industry, the Center is also available for functions of other sectors of the community. The CENEWOF Theater is an ideal venue for cultural and artistic affairs as well as corporate events and product launchings that enliven the life of the Cebu art and business communities. The Conference, Seminar and board Room facilities are appropriate for lectures, meetings, symposia, press briefings and the like. The Press Center may also, upon request, give assistance in providing press coverage for any event. 

 

CENEWOF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

 

1. Cebu News Workers Multi-purpose Cooperative (NEWSCOOP) In the pursuit of its welfare objectives, CENEWOF established in 1996, the Cebu News Workers Multi-purpose Cooperative or more popularly known as NEWSCOOP, a non-stock, non-profit organization that offers its members a wide range of services. Membership in the cooperative is extended to all workers of the print media industry including machine operators, typesetters, support personnel and others. Its services include a rice subsidy program and the extension of loans for livelihood projects, educational loans, and appliance loans. In 2006, Newscoop tied up with Bethlehem Community of Australia and Habitat to mark the start of CENEWOF’s housing program.

 

2. Lecture Series From 1981 to 1992, CENEWOF initiated an annual series of lectures held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the late President Sergio Osmeña, Sr which were aimed not only to honor in Cebu journalism but also to propagate the positive values in his life and career.

 

3. Cenewof Scholarship Fund In consonance with its purpose to promote interest in the field of journalism, the CENEWOF Scholarship Fund provides for scholarships for deserving students in the field of mass communications in Cebu schools such as UP College-Cebu, St. Theresa’s College, and the University of San Jose Recoletos.

 

4. President Sergio Osmeña Memorial Awards In 1993, CENEWOF established the President Sergio Osmeña Memorial Awards which honored selected Cebuanos for outstanding performance in either the public or private sector. The awards aims :to spur productivity and encourage Cebuanos to emulate the virtues of the late President Osmeña as they perform their work in various fields of endeavor”.
